WHY FORGIVENESS?
Among Christians, there’s almost universal agreement that forgiveness is at the very heart of Christian faith and practice. Forgiveness is rooted in who God is and what God does and also has implications for human relationships.
WHY ORDINARY?
Most of what’s been written about forgiveness focuses on an extraordinary response to extraordinary harm. In thinking about ordinary harm and forgiveness, I’m drawing on Jesus’ command to forgive 70 times 7, not as numbers to calculate with but as 70 times a day, 7 days a week lifestyle of forgiveness. What attitudes, understandings, and practices do we need to live forgivingly and justly with our families, colleagues, and congregations?
